Strengthening Families Through Support
Every family’s story is different, and every family deserves support that feels clear and steady. Looking for the right help for your child can bring up a lot of questions, especially when you are already carrying so much. You want support that makes sense, feels respectful, and helps you take the next step with clarity and care.
Behaviour support is for families with school-aged children and youth (ages 6 to 18) with autism and/or other intellectual disabilities. At Laurel Supports, we work with you, your child, and the people around them using a collaborative, family-centred approach rooted in Positive Behaviour Support and neurodiversity-affirming practices.
Together, we create a Positive Behaviour Support Plan that teaches new skills, supports emotional regulation, and fits naturally into your child’s routines, relationships, and everyday life.

Families can expect support that is:
- Responsive to their child’s strengths, needs, and goals
- Collaborative, working closely alongside families
- Culturally safe and grounded in respect
While every family’s path may look different, our goal stays the same: to help children and youth build the skills, confidence, and connections they need to live meaningful lives and to ensure families feel supported along the way.
There are two ways to access this service:
- Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD)
We hold an annual contract with MCFD to offer behaviour consultation at no cost to eligible families. Social workers refer families directly to us. If your family is connected to MCFD and this service feels like a fit, your social worker can help guide the referral process. - Fee‑for‑Service
Families can also access behaviour consultation using private or government-allocated funding, including autism funding (until March 2027) or Persons with Disabilities (PWD) income. If that is the right path for your family, we can help you understand the next steps.
Our Process
- Listen & Learn
We start by getting to know the full picture of your child and family. That includes strengths, preferences, daily routines, relationships, health considerations, and the situations that feel most important to you right now. From there, we work together to identify priorities for support and skill-building.
- Understand What’s Behind the Behaviour
We use Functional Behaviour Assessments to better understand what your child may be communicating through their behaviour. This helps us move beyond quick fixes and build supports that are thoughtful, practical, and grounded in what is really going on.
- Plan & Prioritize
We create a Positive Behaviour Support Plan that is clear and easy to use in everyday life. The plan outlines ways to reduce distress, teach helpful communication and daily living skills, and support the people around your child in responding with consistency and care.
- Coach & Teach
We coach families and support teams to use these strategies in real situations at home, school, and in community. Our goal is to help the people around your child feel more confident, supported, and able to continue using these strategies with confidence.
- Monitor & Grow
We check in regularly to see how things are going, review data, adjust the plan as needed, and celebrate progress along the way. As new skills develop, we keep building from there.
